Finding greatness in the small
As passionate naturalists, we rely on our knowledge to protect nature and preserve biodiversity. Our purview extends from large-scale projects (habitat management, monitoring of renaturation initiatives etc.) to the study of the infinitesimal world of mosses (bryological surveys, moss research).
Luxembourg's 2024 Sphagnum discoveries of note
During the Habitats Directive monitoring campaign for Sphagnum sp in 2024, the Conzefenn nature reserve revealed several of its treasures:
- Sphagnum divinum new for Luxembourg
- Sphagnum angustifolium
- Sphagnum rubellum
- Sphagnum subnitens
Another biodiversity hotspot is the Finsterthal nature reserve, a hoary birch swamp where the presence of Sphagnum papillosum, a new species for Luxembourg, was confirmed in June 2024.
